Powerstorm ESS Receives First Commercial Purchase Order for a Hybrid Energy Solution in Tanzania

Powerstorm ESS today announced that it received its first commercial purchase order for a hybrid energy solution. The $150,000 order is from a major integrator of telecommunications infrastructure in eastern Africa, and the system will be used to supply power to multiple wireless communications base stations in Tanzania.

Anamaria Pruteanu, President of Powerstorm ESS, commented, “While relatively small compared to some of the opportunities in our pipeline, this purchase order is a significant milestone for Powerstorm ESS as it represents our first commercial order for our hybrid energy solutions. This transaction validates our go-to-market strategy and the benefits that our solution offers as a cost-effective and elegant solution for tower operators. We believe the telecom operators’ positive experience and attractive results will translate into additional follow-on orders. During the development of our products, our team has been simultaneously and actively focused on presenting our hybrid energy solutions to potential customers within our initial target markets in Africa. We have a number of major projects in the pipeline that will support the mission of powering the people, such as providing clean hybrid power to the local telecom tower operators, powering waste treatment facilities and hospitals in regions without electricity, and stabilizing existing power infrastructure within cities to diminish the frequency of blackouts and enable greater productivity of their residents.”

Ms. Pruteanu continued, “We are dedicated to supplying electricity to those that need it most – the nearly 1.3 billion people in the world who live without power. This purchase order reflects the first channel we are pursuing – telecommunications service providers, where units will generate and deliver power to support the operation of wireless base stations in remote areas that lack access to dependable 'on-grid' electricity. We are focused on distributing hybrid energy solutions in developing markets throughout Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia where reliable power is scarce and, in many areas, no large-scale electric grid exists. President Obama recently visited Africa with the goal of continuing to help rural communities that have extremely limited access to power. In 2013, he launched Power Africa, an innovative private sector-led initiative aimed at doubling electricity access in sub-Saharan Africa, where more than 600 million people currently lack access to electricity. In Tanzania, the rural population makes up almost 70 percent of the country. Of this rural population, just one out of 10 have access to electricity.”
