Alstom has signed a contract worth more than €16 million to modify the current signalling system at the stations of Ciudad Universitaria, Aristóbulo del Valle, Munro, Boulogne Sur Mer and Grand Bourg on the Belgrano Norte suburban line - Alstom.com. FR0010220475; ALO
The work forms part of the renovation of 22 stations on the line, a project with a total investment of approximately €87 million by Trenes Argentinos Infraestructura (Argentine Railways Infrastructure), under the National Transportation Ministry.
The Belgrano Norte line is one of the 7 suburban train lines of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires. Currently, it provides passenger service between the Retiro and Villa Rosa stations (54 km), with 22 stations crossing the City of Buenos Aires and Vicente López, San Isidro, General San Martín, Tigre, Malvinas Argentinas and Pilar. The service is provided by suburban cars towed by diesel-electric locomotives and has been operated by Ferrovías since 1994.
Alstom will provide, install, test and commission relay interlocking, point machines, signals, local and remote control posts, track circuits and power supply systems.
“We celebrate this new Alstom contract in Argentina, as we continue to work on the different suburban lines, meaning that the quality of our equipment is recognised by our customer. We look forward to further opportunities to offer our experience and technology to the Argentine transportation system,” said Michel Boccaccio, Senior Vice President of Alstom in Latin America.
“This is the first tender awarded to Alstom that generated a direct contract with Trenes Argentinos Infraestructure. We continue betting on investment in Argentina to improve signalling and the modernisation of the country’s transport system,” added Ernesto Garberoglio, Managing Director of Alstom Argentina.
Alstom (alstom.com) has been present in Argentina since 1993, supplying signalling systems for the subway of Buenos Aires, as well as maintenance and modernisation of the subway and suburban rail lines. Alstom has also been involved in the maintenance and modernisation of locomotives and cars for both cargo and passenger services.
