ROSATOM Presented Advanced Russian Nuclear Technologies at the Russian-latin American Business Forum in Montevideo

The Russia-Latin American Business Forum took place from 28th to 29th March in Montevideo (Uruguay), with support from the Russian Federation Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economic Development, Telecom and Mass Communications, Energy and Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance. The event was co-organized by the “Roscongress” Foundation and the Bering-Bellingshausen Institute for the Americas.

Director of ROSATOM 's office in Rio de Janeiro ROSATOM América Latina Sergey Krivolapov made a presentation dedicated to the global development of Rosatom and prospects in Latin America. During the presentation he emphasized the key role of ROSATOM in international market and opportunities for cooperation with Latin American companies that company offers for implementation of national nuclear programs of countries of the region.

S. Krivolapov noted that the region is a priority for ROSATOM in terms of cooperation development. That is why has recently been opened a regional center of the State Corporation in Rio de Janeiro, which is intended to intensify cooperation with partners of the company in Latin America, to support ongoing projects and to find new opportunities for partnership. “ROSATOM is a global company, providing the full range of services from A to Z in the field of nuclear energy. This is a unique offer and advantage in the world market. We are ready to develop cooperation with Latin American countries in all directions. Apart from construction of the NPP and objects of infrastructure we have competencies in areas such as fuel manufacturing, nuclear medicine and also use of radiation technologies in agriculture. The technologies are used for food and agricultural products by treatment of pests and bacteria, which leads to increase the shelf life of products and create conditions for increasing exports of agricultural products. We are ready to offer Latin American partners the technology of water-purification and desalination of sea water”- emphasized Sergey Krivolapov.

In continuation of the speaker noted that recently Rosatom has signed an intergovernmental agreement with Bolivia on the construction of Nuclear Research and Technology Center in Bolivia. The center will allow the country to begin work on the development of nuclear technologies and their application for the needs of science, medicine, geology, agriculture and other areas of human activity where nuclear technologies can be effectively used for peaceful purposes. “It is not only unique from the viewpoint of location of the project (the construction of the Centre will take place at an altitude of 4100 meters above sea level), it will be the center of excellence in Latin America with the most modern equipment, "- said S. Krivolapov.

In his speech, the speaker also mentioned about ROSATOM’ s educational initiatives in the region, to which state corporation pays important attention. So, in addition to successful cooperation with leading educational institutions in Argentina and Brazil, ROSATOM, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation provides training for foreign students in the country's leading technical universities in the atomic lines, not for the first year. In 2016, more than 1,000 students from 37 countries studying in Russia. Among others, quota are available for students from Latin American countries in the amount of 24 places. And 5 people from a Bolivia have already trained in Russia.
